Start your night out at McFly’s, located on 5th Street. This new addition to Ames offers a refreshing shot of nostalgia for 80s lovers with blast from the past decor and a color scheme that is sure to take you back. Above the bar sits an authentic pair of Nike McFly’s tennis shoes, glowing as a representative beacon of a time gone, but never forgotten. Don’t forget to stop in during the week for great specials including $5 pitchers on Mondays, $2 domestic bottles on Tuesdays and other great deals you can find on their Facebook page.
Take a short walk to Della Viti , the only self-serve wine bar in Ames. Here, about 48 wines are offered in 12 Napa Technology WineStations, giving you endless options to experiment and try wines that you may have never otherwise heard of. Della Viti also offers a full service bar with flavorful small plates, decadent appetizers, premium liquors, cocktails, an extensive scotch list and more than 40 craft beers.
After you’ve had your fill of wine, head on over for an authentic English drinking experience at an Ames English bar, London Underground. Being one of the only bars in Ames without televisions, you and your friends can enjoy each other’s company surrounded by ghouls, monsters and more than likely one or two Elvis impersonators. Feel free to take a memorable photo in the genuine phone booth that sits within the bar, shipped all the way from Boston. Take a call to arms, grab a plastic sword pick and sit down for $4 martinis on Wednesday nights.
Next, stop in to Corner Pocket for a change of pace. With 16 pool tables and a large, open area, this laid-back space is perfect for casual games and friendly competition. Had enough pool for the night? Head upstairs to DG’s Taphouse for live music for the Halloween edition of the bi-annual music and arts installation Re:Birth. DG’s also features one of the most extensive selections in Ames with 56 beers on tap.
After you’ve emerged a billiards champion, head back downstairs and stop in next door to Sportsman’s Lounge where you can enjoy shuffleboard, pool, foosball and jam out to your favorite classics on an authentic jukebox.
Pop in next door to Deano’s 119 to keep the fun rolling. They will be featuring live music by a local favorite, Great Caesar’s Ghost, jello shots, and giving out drink prizes throughout the night. Deano’s also features one of the best karaoke nights in town, each Saturday with amazing specials.
Still thirsty? Stop in to Whiskey River for a monstrous selection of over 170 different liquors, wines and a wide range of more than 60 beers. The fresh, modern interior, accompanied by a courteous, knowledgeable staff provides customers a comfortably casual drinking environment worthy of the unanimous 4-star customer rating it has so appropriately been given. This is one river that won’t run dry, so feel free to bring as many friends as you please.
Your night won’t be complete without a stop at Olde Main, where you can drink beer that was brewed in the very same building you ordered it. Featuring six of their own full-flavored beers, there’s something for everyone at this stop. Not a fan of craft beer? Not a problem because Olde Main features an extensive variety of domestic beer and liquor. Also, be sure to stop in during the week for $4 pitchers on Tuesdays, Wednesday for $1 pints, and happy hour everyday from 4 to 6 p.m.
You might find yourself wondering where you’ll find a costume suitable for such a spooktacular event.
