Men’s golf in twelfth place in North Carolina

Without its leader, Nick Voke, some outside contributions were needed for the ISU men’s golf team to be competitive at the Bridgestone Golf Collegiate.

Two rounds are in the books at the Grandover Resort East Course and such has not been the case for the Cyclones as they are in 12th place out of 14 teams with 18 holes remaining.

54 strokes separate Iowa State from leader Purdue, which owns a four shot lead over North Carolina.

On the day, Iowa State posted rounds of 306 and 291, good for a 21-over-par total.

Individually, redshirt senior Collin Foster carded Iowa State’s low 36-hole score, surging in round two with a two-under-par 70 to compliment an opening 75.

His score of 70 was Iowa State’s best individual round by three strokes. Foster is tied for 30th place out of 84 golfers and trails Purdue’s Austin Eoff by 14 strokes.

Juniors Jack Carter and Ruben Sondjaja are tied for 53rd place at five-over-par for the tournament. Carter posted scores of 76 and 73, while Sondjaja posted a 75 and 74.

Freshman Conner Koberg is in 72nd place with scores of 80 and 74.

Fellow freshman Jon Hudson is in 80th place after an 81 and 80.

Four shots separate Iowa State from eight place, but 16 separates it from ninth. Iowa State leads 13th place by two strokes and by four of last place.

The third and final round is scheduled for Sunday at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
