One of Iowa State’s newest organization chapters is having its kickoff this week.

The Iowa State Association for Women in Communications is hosting an organization kickoff from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in 169 Hamilton Hall.

The Association for Women in Communications is a national organization that promotes leadership and recognizes excellence of its members, who are women in the communications field.

The kickoff will host a speech from Jana Rieker, public relations and communication director at Trilix Marketing Group in Des Moines.

The ISU chapter hopes to prepare women who are going into the communications field by giving them networking opportunities, hosting guest speakers like Rieker and allowing job shadows.

The group will also take time to address opportunities and challenges associated with being a woman in the communications field.
