Five fun facts about wasps

With an increase in the number of wasps, more specifically yellow jackets, around campus, take a minute to go over these five fun facts about wasps.
- Between 50 and 100 people die each year from wasp and bee stings.
- More people are stung by yellow jackets, a type of wasp, than any other wasp or bee.
- Some yellow jackets can sting repeatedly, not just once like honey bees.
- Yellow jacket numbers spike in the late summer, hence the large number on campus recently.
- Yellow jackets are “notoriously aggressive” according to the Illinois Department of Public Health Prevention and Control Department.
