Pieta Brown, Bo Ramsey to perform at Bluestem
September 30, 2015
Iowa musician Pieta Brown will perform with blues singer and guitarist Bo Ramsey at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Bluestem Stage.
Tickets for the event are $12 for students and $17 for adults online at Eventbrite and at the door.
Originally from Iowa City, Brown is a singer, songwriter and guitar player. Her family introduced her to music as a child, and it has been a big inspiration to her ever since.
“Growing up and having that music close by just made it seem like the most natural thing in the world,” Brown said about her family’s influence on her career. “Music and songwriting became a lifeline for me really early on because my parents split up when I was a kid. I think I lived in a different house or apartment every year until I was about 16 going on 17, so music was a constant thing.”
Brown is now on a tour across the country after the release of her most recent album “Paradise Outlaw.”
Touring and seeing new places is one of Brown’s passions, but she does not stray too far from her midwestern roots.
“I love playing in Iowa, and I love the audiences in general in the Midwest,” Brown said.
Ramsey, who is Brown’s husband, will play the electric guitar alongside Brown. Ramsey, who is also from Iowa, is known for his blues music.
Brown and Ramsey met after Brown sent him some of the songs she had recorded. This sparked a new friendship that would later turn into something more.
“I think because we were friends first and because the connection came through the music it’s a really, really cool part of our relationship,” Brown said.
Brown has also performed in other Ames venues, like the Maintenance Shop. This will be her first time performing at the Bluestem Stage.
