Most Iowans know it’s Cy-Hawk week for the football programs, but tonight also marked the annual Cy-Hawk game for the soccer programs.

The Hawkeyes emerged victorious in the first Cy-Hawk series event of the year by a score of 1-0.

Iowa got on the board in the sixth minute of the game. The Hawkeyes earned an early corner kick, which was converted into a goal-scoring header.

Iowa dominated on corner kick opportunities in the first half, earning four while the Cyclones failed to force a single corner kick opportunity for themselves.

At the half, Iowa led Iowa State six shots to five, proving fairly equal offensive opportunities for both sides.

The Cyclones were unable to make anything happen in the second half and ultimately fell by a 1-0 score.

ISU coach Tony Minatta has commented on his team’s consistently slow starts multiple times this season. The slow start tonight resulted in another loss, dropping the Cyclones to 4-3 this season.

The Cyclones will be in action again this weekend when they take on North Dakota State on at 1 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the Cyclone Sports Complex in Ames.
