2015-16 ISU football schedule
August 2, 2015
Sept. 5: Northern Iowa – Ames, Iowa
After last season’s loss to FCS opponent North Dakota State, Iowa State will have another season opener against an FCS team. Iowa State is 3-2 in season openers in the last five seasons — 2-1 when playing Northern Iowa, which is one of its sister regent universities.
In 2013, the last time the two teams met, the Cyclones were thwarted 28-20 at Jack Trice Stadium.
Sept. 12: Iowa – Ames, Iowa
The first match of the year in the CyHawk rivalry, with Iowa State taking home the trophy in back-to-back years. Last season, the football team helped in that quest, beating Iowa 20-17 in Iowa City on a last-second field goal by Cole Netten.
The Cyclones continued to get the better of the Hawkeyes in this football rivalry, winning three of the last five games.
Sept. 19: Toledo – Toledo, Ohio
A rematch of Iowa State’s homecoming win last season, the Cyclones will attempt to use that momentum to beat Toledo a second time in as many years.
The Mid-America Conference Rockets went 7-1 in conference play and 8-4 overall last season to clinch a berth in the GoDaddy Bowl against Arkansas State. In the high-scoring game, Toledo prevailed 63-44.
Oct. 3: Kansas – Ames, Iowa
The bottom feeders of the Big 12 in recent years, Kansas pulled off an upset victory against Iowa State last season in Lawrence, Kan., 34-14. It came after a 34-0 ISU win in the 2013-14 season.
It was Iowa State’s first loss to Kansas since a 41-36 loss in 2009.
Oct. 10: Texas Tech – Lubbock, Texas
Texas Tech made a resurgence against the Cyclones in the last few seasons, winning the last three games against Iowa State after Iowa State won back-to-back games in 2010 and 2011.
The Red Raiders have gone 12-12 in the last two seasons with a 4-7 record last season.
Oct. 17: TCU – Ames, Iowa
Perhaps the hardest game on the Cyclones’ schedule, TCU is a team that is predicted to once again fight for a top-four spot in the BCS playoff. It was beaten out by Ohio State last season.
In the last two meetings between the Cyclones and the Horned Frogs, TCU has outscored Iowa State 76-20. The Cyclones last defeated the Horned Frogs in 2012, 37-23.
Oct. 24: Baylor – Waco, Texas
The Cyclones’ schedule won’t get any easier as they take on the Bears for the first time in Baylor’s new McLane Stadium, which was finished in 2014. Between the last two meetings, Baylor has outscored Iowa State 120-35.
Baylor went 11-1 in last year’s regular season, but dropped a close 42-41 game to Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl.
Oct. 31: Texas – Ames, Iowa
Iowa State will return home its homecoming game against Texas. The last time these two teams played in Jack Trice Stadium, the Longhorns won 31-30 after a controversial call in the end zone.
The Longhorns have bucked the Cyclones in recent seasons, winning the last four meetings.
Nov. 7: Oklahoma – Norman, Okla.
Iowa State hasn’t beaten Oklahoma since 1990, when the Cyclones prevailed 33-31. Iowa State has lost 14 consecutive games since then.
Since the realignment of the Big 12, Oklahoma has outscored Iowa State 220-50 in five meetings.
Nov. 14: Oklahoma State – Ames, Iowa
In Iowa State’s last home game of the season, it will compete against a projected top-25 contender.
Iowa State has dropped the last three meetings against Oklahoma State, with the last win coming in 2011 in a 37-31 double-overtime victory when Oklahoma State was ranked second in the nation.
Nov. 21: Kansas State – Manhattan, Kan.
Iowa State has not defeated Kansas State since 2007, losing seven straight games since that victory.
The Wildcats finished the 2014-15 regular season with a 9-3 record before falling 40-35 to UCLA in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
Nov. 28: West Virginia – Morgantown, W.V.
Ever since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12 Conference in the 2012-13 season, the Cyclones have gone 1-2 against the former Big East team.
In last season’s matchup, Iowa State was defeated 34-27 in its last home game of the season.
