Sophomore outside hitter/middle blocker Alexis Conaway only played two points of the four-set Cardinal and Gold volleyball scrimmage on August 22.

During the scrimmage, Conaway made an appearance on the exercise bike, further fueling the speculation that she might be be injured.

ISU coach Christy Johnson-Lynch confirmed those suspicions after the match.

“[Conaway] has been nursing a sprained ankle that she suffered earlier this week,” Johnson-Lynch said. “And she should be ready for the first game of the season.”

Conaway is expected to have a big year for the Cyclones. She was named to the All-Freshman Big 12 team last year and was also All-Big 12 honorable mention.

To add to those accolades, Conaway was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15, 2014 and Big 12 Rookie of the Week on Nov. 17, 2014.

Conaway and the rest of her teammates will open their season on Aug. 28 at 6:30 against the Dayton Flyers at Hilton Coliseum.
