Iowa State (3-1) responded strong just two days after losing their first game of the season by upsetting No. 10 Pepperdine (3-1) 1-0 on the road in Malibu, California.

The game was a defensive battle for the majority of the game, with both teams tied at zero at the half. Pepperdine had not yet conceded a single goal this season.

The Cyclones changed that early in the second half. Taylor Wagner delivered the ball to Haley Albert on a corner kick. Albert headed the ball towards goal, where Klasey Medelberg was able to get her foot on the ball for the lone goal of the game.

Pepperdine’s defensive prowess figured to be a tough task for Iowa State to crack, but the Cyclones defense proved to be just as tough. The defense made life easy for goalkeeper Lindsey Hendon, who was only forced to make two saves in the game.

The win was the Cyclones first win over a top-25 team since they defeated No. 23 Washington in August of 2011. It was also the first win against a top-10 team in program history.

Iowa State will turn it’s attention towards Colorado College and Colorado, who they will face off against next weekend.
