ISU men’s basketball coach Steve Prohm owns success developing and getting his point guards into the NBA from his former school, Murray State. And that was on display Thursday night.

In Thursday’s 2015 NBA Draft, Prohm’s former point guard at Murray State , Cameron Payne, was selected as the 14th pick in the first round by the Oklahoma State Thunder.

Isaiah Canaan, another of Prohm’s former point guards at Murray State, was drafted 34th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets.

In 2013-14, Canaan spent much of the season in the NBA Developmental League. The following season Canaan played in 25 games averaging 6.2 points for Houston before being dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers where he played in 22 games and averaged 12.6 points.

Now that he’s at Iowa State, Prohm will have another potential NBA point guard in Monté Morris. Last season Morris was an All-Big 12 player as well as a semi-finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which is given out to the best point guard in college basketball.

Morris averaged 11.9 points, 5.2 assists and 3.4 rebounds last season. He also posted the nation’s best mark for assist-to-turnover ratio for the second consecutive season with 4.63 assists for every turnover. He broke the NCAA record as a freshman in that statistic, posting a 4.79 mark.

Aaron White

University of Iowa men’s basketball forward, Aaron White, was the 49th overall selection by the Washington Wizards in the second round of the NBA Draft.

White averaged 16.4 points and 7.3 rebounds in his final season as a Hawkeye.
