Shelby Kramer

Like most college students, I’m definitely no chef. My typical suppertime process includes grabbing a piece of meat from the freezer and tossing it with a couple things in the pantry. There’s no magic to my cooking.

Regardless, I do prepare some things that I’m fond of, and the recipes are very easy to follow because it’s usually a toss-up on how I make them. Here are some of my favorite things to make, but keep in mind that they aren’t so much recipes as ingredients with a vague way of how to prepare them together.

Salsa chicken

All you need is chicken, seasonings and…well…salsa. That’s pretty self-explanatory, but the way you cook it can vary. I’ve made salsa chicken in a skillet, in the oven and in a crock pot, so the recipe is very versatile.

I usually prepare my salsa chicken with chicken-flavored rice, like the stuff that comes in a small box. It’s not very healthy, but it’s tasty.

Cream soup pork chops

I haven’t quite nailed this recipe, but it tastes pretty good if it comes out right. Just pick up some pork chops, cheese, cream of mushroom and cream of chicken soup and instant white rice. Like with the salsa chicken, you can prepare your pork chops in whichever way you want, like in a crock pot, oven or skillet.

Season the pork chops, put them in the cooking vessel of choice, top the chops with the mixture of soups and maybe throw a little water in with them to cook. After they’re pretty well cooked, prepare the instant white rice and throw that in with the chops. Let that cook for a bit then add the cheese and wah-lah, it’s done.

Stir fry

This is a recipe that anyone can do extremely easily, and there’s really only one way to prepare it because the instructions are on the side of the packet of sauce. When you go to the store, grab some chicken, stir fry sauce and the additional, vegetable-like stuff you want, like celery, water chestnuts, snap peas, carrots, broccoli and whatever else.

The recipe is simple: follow the instructions, which usually include cooking the chicken, adding the veggies and adding the sauce. Simple and delicious.
