Police are investigating an armed robbery at an Ames residence on Tuesday, marking the second such incident in as many days.

Ames Police Commander Jason Tuttle said the police were called to the 2700 block of Melrose Avenue near North Grand Mall at 9:41 a.m. after a report that two black men had broken into a private residence. When officers arrived on the scene, the resident was found with lacerations on his head, Tuttle said.

“They kicked in the door of the apartment, displayed a gun, demanded money and other property, assaulted the resident and left,” Tuttle said.

Police are unsure of the type of weapon used to assault the resident, but Tuttle said it was something hard enough to cause lacerations on the victim’s head. The resident was treated, then released from Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Police are not yet sure whether the two suspects are the same men responsible for the robbery at 3817 Marigold Dr. on Monday.

“The circumstances are similar to yesterday,” Tuttle said. “We have more of a vague description of the suspects today. We don’t know for sure yet that they’re the same two guys.”

Police identified one suspect in Monday’s incident as Jeremy Devon McCorley, 25, of Ames. Arrest warrants for McCorley were issued Monday night for first-degree robbery, a class “B” felony, and assault while participating in a felony, a class “D” felony.

Tuttle said the robberies seemed to be “targeted” and the suspects knew what they were looking for.

Police urge anyone with information about either incident, or the whereabouts of McCorley, to call 911 or the Ames Police Department at 515-229-5133.
