Top five things freshmen should know about parking
June 15, 2015
1) Parking permits
Residence hall parking permits are available for freshmen to purchase at 7 a.m. July 22. Freshmen who are commuting to campus from outside of Ames can start buying permits at 7 a.m. July 23. Student commuters living in Ames can begin purchasing a permit at 7 a.m. Aug. 5. To see the list of parking permit prices, visit http://www.parking.iastate.edu/permit/fees.
2) Parking lots
There are many parking lots located throughout campus. Each parking lot and set of parking spaces has its own availability. For example, some spots are 30-minute spots for anyone’s use, while other spots are restricted all days and all hours. Many parking lots are open for anyone’s use from 5:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. However, to ensure you are not violating the parking rules, carefully read the signs in the lot. To see a map of campus and the locations of parking lots, go to http://www.fpm.iastate.edu/maps/.
3) Stadium Parking
Many freshmen have parking permits in the stadium lot. Students are required to move their vehicle from the parking lot by midnight the night before home football games. There are multiple lots open on campus during the weekends. CyRide has a stop near the stadium where students can get a ride to where they need to go on campus and around Ames.
4) Parking Tickets
If you receive a parking ticket, the violation will be charged to your U-Bill. There are several methods of paying for tickets, which can be found at http://www.parking.iastate.edu/ticket. If a car has already been ticketed, but has not moved, additional parking tickets can be given. If a parent or other guest is visiting a student and receives a parking ticket, he or she can fill out a “Visitor Void” up to three times on the parking division’s website.
5) Help Van
If students are experiencing car trouble on campus, they can call the Help Van at (515) 294-4444. The Help Van can aid students in jumpstarting their car, shoveling snow out of its path, provide rides to service stations and other various needs.
