Iowa State splits doubleheader against Texas Tech

The Cyclones split their Big 12 doubleheader against the Red Raiders of Texas Tech.
Texas Tech jumped out early when they scored a run in the second to give them a 1-0 lead over Iowa State.
The Red Raiders lead did not last long as junior Brittany Gomez blasted a grand slam over the center wall in the third to give the Cyclones a 4-1 lead. Iowa State tacked another run in the third when senior Lexi Slater slammed a solo home run over the left field wall.
Texas Tech cut the lead to three when it added another run to make the score 5-2, still in favor of Iowa State.
The Cyclones made a pitching change right before the sixth inning started when they substituted senior Paris Imholz for senior Stacy Roggentien.
Iowa State went on to beat Texas Tech 5-2 in the first game.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Red Raiders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second just like the first game.
The Cyclones tied the game 1-1 in the third when Gomez stole home on a wild throw.
Scoring halted for both teams as they went into extra innings.
The Red Raiders ended the scoring drought when they scored the winning run of the game in the eighth. Texas Tech went on to beat Iowa State 2-1.
Iowa State takes the diamond once again at noon May 3 to round out its three-game series against Texas Tech.
