The city of Ames has released a list of road construction updates for the week of May 25.

Street reconstruction on West Street from Hyland Avenue to Sheldon Avenue will begin Tuesday, May 26. No vehicle access is available to West Street during this project; however, both Hyland Avenue and Sheldon Avenue intersections with West Street will remain open to traffic.

This portion of West Street will remain closed for approximately two to three weeks. If weather or other conditions prohibit this work from beginning on Tuesday, it will take place on the next day of favorable conditions.

Construction on Twenty-Fourth Street, from Hayes Avenue west to the railroad crossing, will begin Thursday, May 28, including closing the intersection as well as the street. No traffic will be allowed in the work zone. The work is anticipated to take 14 working days and is weather dependent.

This is the first phase of the total street reconstruction of Twenty-Fourth Street from Northwestern Avenue west to the railroad tracks. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction during the remainder of the phases.

Work will begin on Ridgewood Avenue from Thirteenth Street south to Ninth Street, as well as several blocks of Ninth Street, beginning Tuesday, May 26. The street will remain open to traffic, but drivers can expect to encounter construction vehicles and may experience delays.

Street improvements to Ridgewood Avenue and Ninth Street include the installation of new water mains, sanitary sewer point repairs, storm intake upgrades and pavement upgrades.
