David Irving, E.J. Bibbs signed to NFL teams
May 3, 2015
Former ISU tight end E.J. Bibbs was signed to the Cleveland Browns and will be joined in the NFL by former teammate David Irving, who was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs, according to National Football Post reporter Aaron Wilson on May 2 and 3.
The announcements came after Cory Morrissey and Tom Farniok announced their new NFL contracts on Twitter.
The 2015 NFL Draft wasn’t a good one of the Cyclones, turning up zero draft picks for the first time since 2011 and the third time in the last six years.
Bibbs was one of the favorites for the Cyclones to be a late-round draft pick, but it never came to fruition as 19 tight ends were drafted before the end of the last round.
Bibbs had 45 receptions for 382 yards for Iowa State in 2014, along with eight touchdowns in 10 games, which is tied fourth all-time in school history. He also earned All-Big 12 first team honors with an all-American third team selection by College Sports Madness.
He lost the last two games to a meniscus injury that hampered him for most of the season.
Defensive end Irving was dismissed from the team in 2014 following a domestic assault charge involving his girlfriend.
In 2013, Irving recorded 19 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss in the eight games he started. In his career with the Cyclones, Irving recorded 44 tackles and three sacks, two of which were in the 2013 season.
The two signings brings the Cyclones’ NFL total from this year’s graduating class to four.
