Kanye West tops Time’s “100 Most Influential People 2015”
April 16, 2015
Kanye West has been named one of the most influential people of our generation as Time magazine has released their annual list of the “ 100 Most Influential People.” West will be featured as one of the magazine’s five cover stars alongside ballet dancer Mist Copeland, actor Bradley Cooper, journalist and author Jorge Ramos and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
An accompanying piece is written by Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla Motors, who details West’s enthralling personality. Many may be surprised to learn this kind of recognition and esteemed accolades are not what drives the rapper. In an additional short video interview West tells Time he doesn’t care about his legacy. This discredits one of people’s biggest misconceptions about him, the notion that he’s obsessed with his own glory. He is less concerned about what his long-lasting impact will be, but is instead more concerned about how his creative work will immediately influence the people around him.

Elon Musk on Kanye West:
“Kanye West would be the first person to tell you he belongs on this list. The dude doesn’t believe in false modesty and he shouldn’t. Kanye’s belief in himself and his incredible tenacity — he performed his first single with his jaw wired shut — got him to where he is today. And he fought for his place in the cultural pantheon with a purpose. In his debut album, more than a decade ago, Kanye issued what amounted to a social critique and a call-to-arms (with a beat): “We rappers is role models: we rap, we don’t think.” But Kanye does think. Constantly. About everything. And he wants everybody else to do the same: to engage, question and push boundaries. Now that he’s a pop culture juggernaut, he has the platform to achieve just that. He’s not afraid of being judged or ridiculed in the process. Kanye’s been playing the long game all along and we’re only just beginning to see why.”
