The M-Shop was filled with laughter as honor students from Cyclone Comedy College took the stage to perform stand-up Monday night.
“I really wasn’t sure what to expect from student comedians but they were all hilarious,” Aurelie Rozeboom, English major, said.
Cyclone Comedy College is a program for honor students to learn the art of stand up comedy. To pass Comedy College, they must perform an original stand-up routine and get at least one laugh from the audience.
“You [Comedy College students] must elicit from the audience not five laughs, not ten laughs, but no fewer than one laugh,” said Peter Orazem, economics professor and teaching assistant for Comedy College
Comedy College has been going on at Iowa State for three years. Gavin Jerome is the professor and has had over 30 years of experience with stand-up comedy. Jerome is also an author of “Comedy College Handbook” which is now in its eight printing.
Comedy College course emphasizes the components of joke writing, sense of humor, humor delivery and tricks for trade.
Eight students performed a stand-up routine on Monday night and eight more will perform on Wednesday night. This course is designed to improve confidence, sense of humor and public speaking skills.
The Comedy College program welcomes honor students at any level.
The online course has six modules which all have six units. There are three levels of courses you can register for. One is a free online course to get a better understanding of what it is all about. Two is an undergraduate course, which is the basic level of Comedy College. Three is a graduate, which is the VIP level of Comedy College.
Comedy College is a free event and will be held in M-Shop Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
