The Ames Police Department is investigating an April 13 call of shots fired at 1217 Mayfield Drive.

When officers arrived, they found blood leading to apartment 210, according to an Ames Police release.

Officers entered the apartment, but found no one inside. A short time later, officers located an injured Yuli Ge, 21, with a gunshot wound to the hand at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Ge was later transferred and treated at a hospital in Des Moines.

A witness said Ge was a resident of 1217 Mayfield Drive, apartment 210. The witness said Ge shot himself in the hand while handling a firearm. Ge refused to speak with the responding officers, according to the release.
