ISU women’s track, field records new school record on final day of Drake Relays

The final day of the Drake Relays provided a jam-packed schedule of events for the ISU women’s track and field team.

Competition began with Anna Holtermann and Kayla Sanborn in the weight throw at 9 a.m., Saturday. The redshirt senior throwers finished 10th and 19th, respectively, in the event. 

The sprint medley relay followed with a 24th-place performance. 

Redshirt junior Colleen Riley recorded a record-breaking performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. 

Riley broke the school record in the event, crossing the finish line at 10:25.83 and shaving more than seven seconds off her previous personal record. The distance runner finished third overall in the event.

Freshman Jhoanmy Luque added to the top-10 performances after finishing ninth in the triple jump. 

The distance medley relay and 1,500-meter concluded competition for the Cyclones at the Drake Relays. The relay team finished eighth among 16 teams in the field. 

Junior Perez Rotich concluded the Drake Relays for Iowa State with a fourth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run.
