What Does the Library Dean Do?

According to the Iowa State library site, new library dean Beth McNeil will have a lot of responsibilities by the time she starts in July. The position is described as follows: “The Dean of the Library is responsible for overall administration of the Iowa State University Library, including Parks Library, the Library@Iowa State University, the Veterinary Medical Library, and two subject-based reading rooms ( Design and Mathematics). Other Library’s Office responsibilities include faculty affairs (searches, hiring, and promotion and tenure process), fiscal planning, international programs, grant administration, library assessment and statistics, and staff travel arrangements.”
McNiel expressed her excitement to join the Iowa State staff, saying “the students were really the turning point for me, to see how engaged they are and how much they use the libraries.”
