Smell Your Way Into Spring

Kaylee Cranston

Spring is in the air. With warmer weather come new fresh fragrances from our favorite designers.

“In warmer weather, it’s best to wear lighter and less perfume,” said Paul, a fragrances sales associate at Jordan Creek Younkers in West Des Moines.

After talking with Paul and other fragrances specialists, here are some of the new perfumes that will help leap you into this spring.

Flower Loving

If you’re into floral scents to pair with this spring’s hot new color tangerine orange, Love Story by Chloe is for you. It has an orange jasmine smell, while still being light and refreshing. Sephora sales associate Melissa would recommend wearing this fragrance on a date or to a spring wedding.

Calvin Klein’s new Eternity for Men Summer is something only Calvin Klein can pull off. It’s a perfect mix of sweet, spicy, fresh, clean and just a little undertone of floral but still light and wonderful. Guys, try bathing in this all summer.

There aren’t many fragrances out there for both genders, but Paul from Younkers stands by One by Calvin Klein. It’s sold all year round and has an orange flower, clean smell to it, which makes it great for an on-trend scent.

Freshly Clean & Beautiful

Fresh by Ralph Lauren is just what the box says — fresh. It’s lemony, airy and light, which make it the perfect mix of aromas for the spring and summer. “I recommend wearing less [perfume] in the spring and summer time,” Paul said.

If you’re a Dolce and Gabbana man, its new summer scent is just what you are looking for. The scent reflects the Mediterranean Sea and makes any guy want to go swimming in the clear water. One whiff of Light Blue Swimming in Lipari and you will be hooked.

Grab your beach hat because even in this cold start to an Iowa spring, Calvin Klein’s One Summer will make you believe the sun is out and you’re relaxing on a beach. Not only does it give that fresh relaxing summer feel at first whiff but it’s clean enough to wear on a date or going to show your stuff on Welch Avenue.

Kick Up the Spicy in Your Life

Floral scents are popular with women, but for someone who wants to go bold and can afford to wear something a little more spicy, Eternity Summer for Women, by none other than Calvin Klein, is a must try. It’s still light but the underlying spiciness is worth the risk.

Every man wants to smell a little more masculine, and A*Men Pure Wood by Thierry Mugler does the trick. The scent of woods might be a little strong but don’t worry — there is split tune of warm vanilla spice that cuts the woodiness down.

Spicebomb is exactly what it sounds like. The bottle, designed to look like a grenade, by Viktor&Rolf shows they are going all out on this tobacco and chili aroma. The concoction is lightened by hints of grapefruit and cinnamon. Men, if you are wearing this, you are sure to get noticed.
