From the kibble to the grave, back again

A Washington State dog lives again. After being struck by a car, hit on the head with a hammer in an apparent and misguided mercy kill and buried in a field, this pooch rose from the grave and is currently being treated at Washington State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

According to CNN, the dog — now dubbed “Theia” — was found by a farm worker after managing to escape her grave four days after being buried. The worker took the dog to the vet, where she was found to suffer from a dislocated jaw, a caved-in sinus cavity, among other injuries. She will require surgery to get her breathing on her own again.

The veterinary hospital’s Good Samaritan Fund is helping to front the medical bills for the pooch, and a fundraising page has been set up to cover the remaining costs.

A Facebook page has also been created to tell of Theia’s miracle story, and donors have surpassed the $10,000 target. The excess funds not required for Theia’s treatment will be used to help other animals in need.
