Waka Flocka Flame cancels University of Oklahoma show over racist SAE video

Rapper Waka Flocka Flame canceled a scheduled concert at the University of Oklahoma in response to a disturbing video released by Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity brothers.

The video was posted on Twitter on Sunday and shows SAE fraternity brothers of the University of Oklahoma singing a racist song about not allowing black people to pledge. This occurred just one day after President Obama’s speech at Selma, Alabama and on the 50th anniversary of “Blood Sunday.”

SAE has since closed its chapter at the University of Oklahoma, suspending all members and possibly revoking membership privileges of the men featured in the video permanently.

Waka Flocka Flame, known for his party anthems and upbeat personality, made it clear that he would not be tolerant of such revolting behavior by canceling his performance at the university. The show was planned for April 25 in a partnership with the SAE fraternity. Waka expressed that there is no place for racism in a message he released on Instagram:

“When I first started doing shows it was all hood spots and all black people. Then I had some mainstream success and did some EDM and it was all white people at my shows for a while. Now it’s white, black and brown people at my shows. All races partying having a good time and enjoying themselves together peacefully. That’s what Waka Flocka is all about. For that reason I must say I’m disgusted and disappointed in the actions of the SAE fraternity at University of Oklahoma and I will be canceling my scheduled performance for them next month. Racism is something I will not tolerate… SMFH… I know for a fact the whole school and SAE don’t agree with those kids actions so know that I’m not madd at the whole #SAE just those disgusting kids!!!!!! #WFF We can’t change history but we damn sure can create our own future #DeathToRacism.” -@wakaflockabsm

Waka Flocka Flame is soon set to release his upcoming LP “Flockaveli 2.” The album serves as the follow-up to the rapper’s debut “Flockaveli,” and will feature appearances from Jay Z, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Drake and 50 Cent. The tentative release date is June 1, and in the meantime, fans can listen to Waka’s new mixtape “The Turn Up Godz: Tour” with DJ Whoo Kid.
