Household items double as beauty life hacks
March 26, 2015
Cosmopolitan Magazine has always produced some interesting, often helpful articles. This is just one of the many that I’ve found online that can help you day-to-day. Check out these handy tips for using household products in different ways.
Staticky hair be gone! Use dryer sheets.
This tip is pretty self-explanatory: gently rub a dryer sheet over the top of your hair to reduce static electricity built up in your do.
Plain yogurt helps those minor burns.
Most people don’t think to keep burn ointment on hand in case of an accident, so when a surface burn from a curling iron, straightener or whatever else hits you, you have a backup option in the form of plain yogurt. It’ll soothe and cool your skin like magic during the 10 minutes you leave it on the scorched spot. It’ll also help restore your skin’s natural barrier because it contains probiotics.
Ever had rust rings on your can of shaving cream? Use topcoat polish on the bottom.
Rust rings in your shower are unsightly and embarrassing. Simply paint the bottom metal ring of your shaving can with topcoat (found in the nail polish aisle.) Extra hint: topcoats can also be applied over inexpensive jewelry to keep it from tarnishing.
Glittery eye shadow can be a pain. Pick up the excess droppings with tape.
On those days/nights when you feeling like getting a bit dazzled up, makeup is a big deal. You don’t want your look ruined by “sloppy” makeup application, and, let’s face it, applying glitter eye shadow isn’t something that can be done perfectly every time. If there are some glitter droppings after application, fret not. Simply use the sticky side of transparent tape to grab the little glitter bits.
Flatirons knock out minor wrinkles in your outfit.
Think of your straightener as a mini iron. Don’t try to tackle big jobs, but minor fixes can be made with the high heat of a flatiron. This hack helps a lot when traveling and all your stuff is mooshed around in your suitcase.
Spray starch doubles as dry shampoo.
Many dry shampoos contain starch, so you can snag a can from the laundry room and use that instead of your typical dry shampoo. Just hold the can six to eight inches from your hair and spray lightly to freshen up.
Wash your face with olive oil.
This doesn’t sound appealing, but Cosmo says it helps. According to the article, olive oil will attract the other oils on your face and in your pores. It’ll draw out all the nasty and leave you glowing and with super clean skin. Yell at Cosmo, not me, if it doesn’t end up working out.
