After knotting up teammate Scott Fernandez at two individual victories apiece at the team’s previous tournament in South Carolina, ISU men’s golfer Nick Voke has a chance to nudge ahead after posting a 67 in round one of the Desert Shootout.

Voke is tied for third place and is just one shot off the pace held by Brock Drogosch of Kanas and Colton Staggs of Tulsa.

His five-under-par round led an ISU effort that has the Cyclones in third place after recording an eight-under-par team round of 280.

Redshirt junior Collin Foster was also under par with a round of 70, his lowest and first under-par round of the season. He is tied for 14th place out of 85 golfers.

Sam Daley ended a nine-round streak of rounds of par or worse by finishing at one-under-par 71. He is tied for 23rd place.

At even-par 72, senior Scott Fernandez is tied for 25th place.

In a tie for 45th place is Ruben Sondjaja. His score of 74 was not counted for team scoring.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Jack Carter recorded a 77 and is tied for 72nd place.

The second round from Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz. is set for March 20. The third and final round is set for March 21.
