Cannabis and canvas: make art while smoking pot
March 6, 2015
Colorado has seen some pretty crazy changes since its legalization of recreational marijuana, and one Denver resident has taken advantage of the pot craze. “Puff, Pass & Paint” is Denver’s first cannabis-friendly, all-inclusive art class.
In a two-hour, smoking-optional painting session, students can follow along with step-by-step instructions or go their own creative route. All materials, including paints, brushes, an 11-by-14 inch canvas and whatever else, are included in the class cost.
Though the class is smoking and alcohol-friendly, Puff, Pass & Paint features a BYOC and BYOB policy, which is to be expected as that’s a lot of ganga to buy for 20 people.
In an online interview featured on CNN.com, owner Heidi Keyes said that Puff, Pass & Paint provides “an environment to come and create, and feels very comfortable doing that. And also to be able to partake in cannabis, if you choose to.”
In the CNN video featuring Puff, Pass & Paint, art students can be seen using bongs, blunts and pipes to smoke cannabis as they paint.
“This is really more about the process of being creative and smoking, if you want to, instead of the end result,” Keyes said.
Keyes went on to say that she believes cannabis helps her students to have fun and feel comfortable creating.
According to Puff, Pass & Paint’s website, the art class is “all about being part of an atmosphere that is relaxed, comfortable, open-minded and allowing yourself to freely create your own original masterpiece.”
As far as attendance goes, Keyes estimated in the interview that about 60 percent of students are from out of town, and Denver residents often hear about the class, bringing their out-of-town friends to experience it.
f you’re interested in attending a class, tickets can be purchased online at PuffPassAndPaint.com, for about $50 a ticket.
