ISU women’s golf led by a trio in Florida

The No. 25/30 (Golfstat/Golfweek) ISU women’s golf team placed third out of 16 teams at the Miami Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida on March 4.

The Cyclones entered the tournament as the second highest ranked team in the field, only behind eventual champion No. 7/8 Northwestern. Their team finish didn’t go nearly as expected, but it included notable achievements from Celia Barquin, Chonlada Chayanun and Nattapan Siritrai:

– With a 54-hole-total of one-over-par 214, Celia Barquin tied for the fifth-lowest 54-hole total in program history.

– By tying for second place, Barquin recorded her best career finish and her third top-10.

– Chonlada Chayanun tied for sixth place. Chayanun was tied for the lead until a bogie-double bogie stretch on holes 16 and 17 derailed her title chances.

– Chayanun has been in medalist contention in three consecutive tournaments. She tied for 24th at the UCF Challenge on Feb. 10 after owning a share of the lead. She won the Lady Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 17 by five shots.

– Freshman Nattapan Siritrai fell just short of her second top-10 finish. She tied for 11th at four-over-par.
