Redshirt junior Jameel McKay raises his arms to pump up the crowd during the game against No. 15 Oklahoma at Hilton Coliseum on March 2. The No. 17 Cyclones defeated the Sooners 77-70 after a rocky 18-point first half.

1. Kansas (24-7, 13-5 Big 12) [No change [—] from last week]

Eleven straight Big 12 titles. It wasn’t easy, but the Jayhawks pulled off the impressive feat after pulling out a narrow overtime win against West Virginia to clinch the outright title. Lose, and they may have ended in a four-way tie as they fell to Oklahoma just days later as Perry Ellis, Cliff Alexander and Brannen Greene each sat out for various reasons. The Jayhawks may be in trouble if those players don’t return to the court.

2. Iowa State (22-8, 12-6 Big 12) [—]

After being outscored 69-44 in the first halves against Oklahoma and TCU, the Cyclones blew past both teams in the second half by a score of 122-77. Iowa State enters the postseason playing some impressive basketball and hopes to duplicate last season’s Big 12 tournament success at the Sprint Center.

3. Oklahoma (21-9, 12-6 Big 12) [—]

The Sooners finished the season with a loss on the road to Iowa State and a narrow win against Kansas, but neither performance was too inspiring. Kansas played without three of their best players and they dominated the Cyclones for 25 minutes before reversing roles. Despite a bit of a turbulent finish, Oklahoma will be one of the toughest matchups in the Big 12 tournament.

4. Baylor (23-8, 11-7 Big 12) [—]

Speaking of turbulent finishes, Baylor hasn’t played their best in March either. The Bears dropped a winnable game at Texas before nearly being upset by Texas Tech at home. Regardless, Scott Drew’s ability to turn the team around after losing some major pieces from last season has been impressive.

5. West Virginia (23-8, 11-7 Big 12) [—]

Speaking of impressive turnarounds, Bob Huggins took home the Big 12 Coach of the Year award for finishing tied for 3rd in the conference despite appearing to be a one-man team early in the season. The Mountaineers nearly swept the Jayhawks before falling in overtime at Allen Fieldhouse, which would have caused all kinds of mayhem in the standings.

6. Texas (18-12, 8-10 Big 12) [+1]

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi lists the Longhorns as one of the “last four in” the NCAA tournament after beating Kansas State, but they will likely have to win a game in the Big 12 tournament to be a lock. Texas has had one of the most underwhelming seasons in the nation after being a top-10 team in the preseason.

7. Oklahoma State (18-12, 8-10 Big 12) [+1]

The Cowboys are trending downward, and quickly. They’ve dropped five of their last six games after beating three straight ranked teams in early February.

8. Kansas State (15-16, 8-10 Big 12) [-2]

The Wildcats’ 12-point loss to Texas solidified them behind both Oklahoma State and the Longhorns as they prepare to play TCU in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.

9. Texas Christian (17-14, 4-14 Big 12) [—]

It wasn’t a great end of the season for the bottom of the Big 12, as Kansas State, TCU and Texas Tech went 0-4 in the final week.

10. Texas Tech (13-18, 3-15 Big 12) [—]

The last hope for the Red Raiders is the Big 12 tournament, where they see Texas in the first round — a team they lost to by an average of 20.5 points in the regular season.
