Neil Patrick Harris is one and done as Oscars host

According to a report from the New York Times, Neil Patrick Harris has no interest in hosting the Oscars, which he refers to as “The Beast,” ever again. Harris, who is a well known actor, especially in his work on the popular television series “How I Met Your Mother,” was a little less than pleasing in his first stint at hosting the Oscars.

While Harris had lots of energy, he received mostly mixed and negative reviews from critics. What the public may not know is how much time is actually put in to prepare for the job and to make sure that it not only flows well, but to get substantial laughs from the audience.

USA Today reported that while Harris was very happy to have been given the opportunity to host the Oscars, he doesn’t think that with all of the time that was put in preparation and with the response he got from the crowd and critics, he wasn’t sure if it all balanced out and if it would be worth it to do it again.

Following comedians and former hosts Ellen DeGeneres and Seth MacFarlane, Harris knew that no matter what he said and did on stage, he would be compared to previous hosts and judged by the harshest of Oscars enthusiasts. Harris also got some mixed reviews for coming out on stage in his underwear to act like Michael Keaton in the Best Picture winner “Birdman.” While those who saw the movie and understood the joke may have liked it, those who were not familiar with the film were probably pretty confused.

The New York Daily News reported that even though Harris got mixed reviews about his performance, Harris was very proud of the way he was able to entertain the audience for the entirety of the awards show. With only a small portion of the audience actually winning awards, it would be very easy for audience members who are not winning to lose interest.

Although Harris is a great actor and very funny person, hosting the Oscars may not be for everybody and coming from a personal view, I am a fan of Harris but I will admit that his stint as host was a little subpar.

But Harris was not the first host to be a little less than pleasing and he will certainly not be the last. The Oscars came and went just like every year and it will be a matter of time until fans find out who will take on the challenge of host next year.
