Gerard Butler was born into a bookmaking family in Paisley, Scotland in 1969, which I find weird for two reasons: 1) he was born the same year as my dad and I have a crush on him, and 2) I thought Gerard Butler was a U.S. native, so whoah. After spending most of his childhood in Paisley and Canada, Butler went on to attend Glasgow University to study to be a lawyer/solicitor. He was actually president of the school’s law society (weeeiirrrddd).

Butler’s acting career began when he was in London. He was in a London coffee shop when he was approached by actor Steven Berkoff. After starting with small roles, Butler hit it big with being “Attila the Hun” in the USA Network miniseries, Attila (2001), in which he acted alongside Berkoff.

Since then, Butler has gone up and up to act in some pretty solid movies. Here are my favorites:

“Olympus Has Fallen,” Mike Banning

“How to Train Your Dragon 1 & 2,” (voice) Stoick

“Playing for Keeps,” George

“The Bounty Hunter,” Milo Boyd

“Law Abiding Citizen,” Clyde Shelton

“Gamer,” Kable

“The Ugly Truth,” Mike

“P.S. I Love You,” Gerry

“300,” King Leonidas

“Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life,” Terry Sheridan
