ISU swimming and diving unable to overcome woes
February 7, 2015
Iowa State struggled in the first half of the meet, creating too big of a hill to climb as day two ended in defeat for the Cyclones.
The Jayhawks outlasted the Cyclones 169-131 in Lawrence, Kan. The Jayhawks claimed a 94-56 lead through eight events and the completion of day one in the two-day dual meet.
That lead was closed considerably, but it wasn’t enough for the Cyclones in their final dual meet of the season.
Iowa State had three first place finishes in the first eight events. Kasey Roberts continues to impress in her freshman campaign with yet another victory in the 100-yard breaststroke. Roberts broke the Kansas streak of four straight victories to enter the event with her win.
Amanda Paulson capped off day one with a milestone win in her signature event. Paulson secured win number 100 in her best event, the 50-yard freestyle. Paulson began day two by winning the 100-yard freestyle as well raising her career win total at 101.
Julie Dickinson snagged some points for the Cyclones as well on day one. Dickinson finished atop 3-meter diving and finished third in 1-meter, concluding what was a solid meet for her.
Paulson, Deis, Roberts and Clarete all seized first place finishes in day two to work the Cyclones back into the meet. Brouillette also finished atop 1-meter diving.
ISU swimming and diving pushed for a split with the Jayhawks on the season, but the quick start and strong finish from Kansas left Iowa State short of a record-tying dual meet win total.
The Cyclones’ next opportunity will come in the Big 12 men’s and women’s championship in Austin, Texas on Feb. 25 to 28.
