Cyclone Hockey breezed by the Midland Warriors 5-1 Feb. 27 at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.

The Cyclones didn’t wait too long to get on the board, scoring just under two minutes into the first period courtesy of J.P. Kascsak.

Following a pair of penalties against Midland, the Cyclones took advantage of a 5-on-3 with Antti Helanto blasting a shot from the blue line and into the net. They then capitalized on the subsequent power play with Chase Rey in front of the net, carrying a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

Midland answered back in the second period with a goal to pull within two after a shot from the blue line found the back of the net.

The Cyclones put 23 shots on goal in the second period but failed to put a tally on the board.

Midland came close to pulling within one in the third period with multiple scoring chances, but newly-entered goaltender Derek Moser stopped every shot that came his way.

Kascsak tallied his second goal of the game with just over five minutes left in the third period to put the Cyclones up 4-1.

The Cyclones grabbed one more goal to ensure the victory.

Cyclone Hockey will celebrate its senior night against the Midland Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Ames/ISU Ice Arena.
