New York Fashion Week 2015
February 24, 2015
Fashion Week is a fantasy that designers use as a creative playground. The runway is the canvas to their art, displaying their latest collections for the upcoming season. The collection pieces are designed at least six months prior, with designers investing millions of dollars each season to see their visions come to life.
Attending a show is an experience of its own. Each model takes center stage when strutting down to the beat of the music in elaborate garments with hair and makeup that tell a story. People gather to get the smallest glimpse of a new garment. As smoothly as each show runs, a majority of the work is done only hours before the show. The day before the show, models are casted and fitted. The garments that walk down the runway will be inspiration for the upcoming season. One will be able to see garments from the runway in retail stores soon after.
For Fall 2015, there were many trends popular among the designers. Elaborate fur was seen in coats, vests and shoes. Victorian-inspired tops with high necklines and intricate lace details were also seen. For fall, oversized ponchos were styled as layering pieces. Tubular sleeveless silhouette dresses were also quite popular. Large embellishments were seen on shirts. Along with the high neckline trend, chocker necklaces have made a comeback as well. All of these trends are accessible, affordable and can be found at TopShop, Zara and Forever21.
