Spring Break suitcase essentials

Spare car chargers, a deck of cards and tissues can all come in handy during Spring Break vacations.

Spring Break is around the corner and now that your travel arrangements are made, it’s time to think about packing for your trip. These “suitcase essentials” obviously depend on where you’re going, but they are just some things to think about throwing in your bag so you don’t have to worry about buying it at your travel destination. Oftentimes, heightened prices at popular travel destinations can break your bank, taking away from valuable spending/partying money. So here we go.

It’s always a good idea to have your own refillable water bottle. It’s convenient and makes a lot more sense money-wise. Nobody seems to know why bottles of water are so expensive at convenience stores and in vending machines, but buying a bottle every time you need a drink can add up.

Guy or girl, pack some extra headbands and/or bandanas. If you get to your destination and realize you forgot your headband, or broke your only one, it can be a pain to try and hunt down some replacements. The same goes for bobby pins, hair ties and whatever other bathroom necessities that might need placing on the go.

It might be a good idea to have some spare flippy floppies. If you’re hitting the beach or the pool, it can be easy to misplace your shoes. Thong flip flops also have a tendency to break, so it’s nice to have backup. Plus, if you’re using a public shower, it’s a good idea to have some shoes on so you don’t risk any feet fungi.

Travel-size stuff is awesome and obviously essential for … well, travel. One thing that a lot of people overlook, though, are travel-size packages of tissues. You never know what you could use a package of tissues for, but the situation may arise when you’ll say, “Wow, I should have listened to that article on the Daily mobile application and packed some tissues.”

There’s no saying any alcohol will be involved with your Spring Break trip — let’s be real — but it’s still a good thought to throw a deck or two of cards into your bag. Whether you’re playing a drinking game or just playing “war” to pass the time, cards are a cheap and entertaining thing to have on hand.

If you’re venturing into the wilderness, make sure you pack extra bug spray. Constant mosquito bites can ruin a trip, and gas station bug spray can be really pricey. Buy a can or two extra at the better price and be ready for the swarms.

Phone chargers have a tendency to break at the most inopportune times. Make sure you have an extra phone charger of good quality in your bag, just in case. We’ve all had experience with gas station phone chargers that are overpriced and crappy. Don’t risk losing the battery life of your precious mobile device by not being prepared.

Happy travels.
