Iowa State downs Northern Iowa 24-12

After a stinging loss to Northern Iowa last season, the ISU wrestling team downed the Panthers at Hilton Coliseum by a score of 24-12.

Tanner Weatherman got the ball rolling for Iowa State early, scoring a takedown in the final minute of his match at 174 pounds to seal the the 6-2 decision win. Lelund Weatherspoon and All-American Kyven Gadson followed suit, as Weatherspoon won a 10-3 decision and Gadson scored a 17-5 major decision. 

The next two matches fell in favor of Northern Iowa, as No. 10 Blaize Cabell defeated Quean Smith and No. 6 Dylan Peters scored a fall agaisnt Kyle Larson, which put the score at 10-9 at the intermission. 

All-American Earl Hall furthered his winning streak in 2015 after downing Leighton Gaul 9-3. True freshman Dante Rodriguez brought more bonus points for Iowa State with a 13-1 major decision. 

Gabe Moreno was able to notch a 13-4 major decision against Gunnar Wolfensperger at 149 pounds, followed by a Cyclone loss at 157. 

Mike Moreno was the final match of the day at 165 pounds, facing No. 13 Cooper Moore. Moreno came away with the decision victory, ending the dual at 24-12. 

Iowa State wrestles Wisconsin at 2 p.m. Feb. 22 at Hilton Coliseum.
