Shelby’s 2015 movie must-sees

“The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water,” Feb. 6

I’m not too sure what to think about this new movie and the commercials look pretty dumb. I still might give the flick a try, however, as I’m an avid Spongebob fan. One of the weirdest parts of this film is Antonio Banderas as “Burger Beard.” Yikes.

“50 Shades of Grey,” Feb. 13

I haven’t read the books, and I’m not too involved in the hype, so me watching this doesn’t make much sense. Regardless, I’ll probably rent it on Redbox and see E.L. James’ steamy novel come to the big screen.

“The Lazarus Effect,” Feb. 27

I can’t decide if this movie will be worth the watch or not. I guess the movie is about a medical project trying to bring the dead back to life, but not in the zombie way. According to the trailer, a test goes wrong and one of the characters is electrocuted. She’s brought back to life, but isn’t the same as she was. This film could be good, could be bad or could be average. It features Evan Peters, though, so that’s neat.

“Chappie,” March 6

I’m super excited for “Chappie.” If you love “District 9,” then you’ll love this film, according to online rating sites. Long story short, it’s a film set in the future where Hugh Jackman steals a robot and brings it to life with his dysfunctional family. The plot makes it sound like an iffy movie, but the previews look great.

“Furious 7,” April 3

So Paul Walker passed away in November, which is enough to bring a tear to anyone’s eye. “Furious 7” is a final whoopee for the gang and a tribute to Walker, featuring Walker’s younger brother, Cody, as Brian O’Conner.

Another exciting part of the final movie of the franchise is the inclusion of Jason Statham as the bad guy. Weeeee.

“Mad Max: Fury Road,” May 15

I’m so excited to see this movie. Besides the fact it is set in a post-apocalyptic desert land, which I love, the movie also features Tom Hardy —the badass from “Warrior” and “Lawless,” among other awesome movies. Charlize Theron is also in there, so yay. I’m ready.

Also, this movie comes from the producer of “The Purge,” “Paranormal Activity” and “Insidious.” Those movies are all a toss-up too, so we’ll see.

“Jurassic World,” June 12

1993 saw “Jurassic Park” and now this. In the movie, Isla Nublar has been a fully functioning dinosaur theme park for 10 years, but it’s on the decline. In an effort to spark interest in the park, a new attraction is created, but backfires, predictably. This should be an interesting watch.

“Jurassic World” also features Chris Pratt, the main guy from “Guardians of the Galaxy,” so that’s pretty awesome.

“Ted 2,” June 26

I wasn’t a huge fan of the first “Ted,” but it wasn’t terrible. I’ll probably give it a watch only because I love Mark Wahlberg’s acting and Seth McFarlane’s wit. There’s also Amanda Seyfried and Morgan Freeman in it.

“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2,” Nov. 20

I’m going to be honest and say that, even though I’m a “Hunger Games” lover, I haven’t seen the first “Mockingjay.” Regardless, I’m excited for the last of the four-film, three-book sha-bang.

Star Wars: Episode VII, Dec. 18

This is nuts, but I’ve never see the “Star Wars” movies. I do have plans to see them, however, and view this one closely after. Episode VII is a continuation of George Lucas; saga and it’s set 30 years after 1983’s “Star Wars: Episode VI.”
