Cyclones fall to Red Raiders 71-58

For ISU women’s basketball, it looks like the team’s rough streak is continuing.

Iowa State (15-8, 6-6 Big 12) traveled down to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech (14-11, 4-8 Big 12), looking to win its second straight game. But in the end, the Red Raiders prevailed 71-58, marking the fourth loss for the Cyclones in their last five games.

The Cyclones started out the game hot, making five of their first seven shots. Then, however, the cold streak hit. Iowa State made just three of their next 14 shots and Texas Tech took advantage. The Red Raiders then went on a big 21-5 run, sending them into the locker room with a 44-28 lead.

Texas Tech opened the second half playing just like they had in the first. The team was able to add to its lead with ease and it seemed like there was very little Iowa State could do to stop the Red Raiders.

The Cyclones went on a 10-0 run late in the game, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Red Raiders. Texas Tech finished out the game on top, earning its fourth win in conference play.

Bryanna Fernstrom finished the game with 19 points, leading the Cyclones. Nikki Moody finished with 17 and was the only other player in double-digit figures. In fact, only three other Cyclones scored in the game.
