Bonne Finken and the Collective set to perform at the Maintenance Shop
February 13, 2015
Bonne Finken will perform at The Maintenance Shop for the first time in her career on Friday February 13, 2015.
Finken has been known as a celebrity around the Des Moines music scene where she has played many events. The Des Moines Art Festival, 80/35 Music Festival and a headlining show at Wooly’s are all events that she could put on her resume. On top of all of this she was also named “Best Musician – 2014” by Des Moines’ Cityview magazine.
While she is big around the Des Moines area, she is yet to become a household name.
“I don’t know a whole lot about her. I know she’s from Des Moines and recorded at The Sonic Factory. That’s as far as my knowledge goes, but I would definitely go to support Des Moines and local music,” said Henry Parizek, freshman in English.
2014 also saw the release of Finken’s third studio album, “Fairytales/LoveAffairs,” which was nominated for “CD of the Year – 2014” by Indie Digest Magazine. Three different songs from the album charted as high as No. 1 on Adult Album Alternative (AAA) Radio.
Finken has performed all around the United States including stops at The Bitter End in New York City, the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT and SXSW in Austin, TX, which she will be returning to in 2015.
While Finken has garnered much critical acclaim and has performed all across the country, she still appreciates the personal touch from fans.
“For me, I love that immediate real feedback. It’s just so important,” Finken said. “Some people may try to say the right things [to you] if they’re employed by you, but hearing genuine feedback from fans means so much more to me.”
While Finken has performed in Des Moines plenty of times, she also tries to make her stops around Iowa.
“It’s been a few years since I’ve played in Ames and this is my first time at The Maintenance Shop, but it seems like a really cool place,” Finken said.
While it’s been a few years since Finken’s last performance in Ames, that doesn’t mean that the buzz about her performance has stopped.
“A lot of the faculty has talked about her and she’s been on our radar for a while, but one day she contacted us and we knew that we had to book her,” said Jim Brockpahler, entertainment programs coordinator of Student Union Board. “We’re really excited to see what she does with her time at the M-Shop.”
Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at The Maintenance Shop and the band will play at 9:00 p.m.
Tickets are $8 with a student ID and $10 for the public, with a $2 increase the day of the show. Tickets can be purchased at the M-Shop box office or online at www.midwestix.com.
