One of the most loved and classic novels of literature, “To Kill a Mockingbird” was released in 1960. Nearly 55 years later, author Harper Lee will be releasing another book titled “Go Set a Watchman.”

“To Kill a Mockingbird” was the only book ever released by Lee and was made into a very iconic film in 1962 starring Gregory Peck. According to a report from USA Today, “Go Set a Watchman” will be a sequel to “To Kill a Mockingbird” and will display “Scout” in adulthood, which takes place approximately 20 years later.

According to a report from CNN, Lee had originally written “Go Set a Watchman” in the mid 1950s, but when her editor had been really interested in all of the flashbacks that were occurring in the novel, she convinced Lee to write a book that occurred earlier in time. In the United States most students will eventually read “To Kill a Mockingbird” for school. Most likely due to the great themes that this novel stands for that include doing the right thing and to not judge anybody based on the color of their skin.

For those who are not very familiar with the storyline of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” the storyline focuses around a young girl named Scout and her father named Atticus who is defending a black man who is accused of raping a young white woman in Alabama in the 1930’s. According to a report from USA Today, “Go Set a Watchman” includes a storyline in which Scout is an adult woman and goes into detail about her views of the place where she grew up and tries to understand why her father views society the way he does.

The announcement of a sequel to one of the most popular and loved novels of all time will come as a shock to many, but it will also bring lots of excitement. According to USA Today over 40 million copies of the book were sold and it also won the Pulitzer Prize. In the film that was released in 1962, actor Gregory Peck, who plays Atticus Finch, won an Academy Award for Best Actor.

At age 88, Lee is not done yet and at least three generations of people will all be anticipating the arrival of this sequel to one of the most famed novels of all time. “Go Set a Watchman” will be released on July 14, 2015.
