Man bulldozes his home without permission from his wife

No home is completely perfect and there are always minor changes that can be made. In a report form USA Today, a man in New York bulldozed his own home while his wife was away running errands.

On Jan. 19, James Rhein rented his own bulldozer and began to tear his house down all while his wife had been away from the house for a few hours. When his wife, Diane Andryshak, came home all that was left of her home was the front steps that lead up to what used to be a home.

NBC New York reported that Andryshak had no idea of her husband’s plans to destroy their home and everything inside of it. USA Today reported that Andryshak was the legal owner of the house and said that they had been making repairs to the house but they had not been living in the house at the time of the destruction.

After bulldozing the entire home and disposing of all items in the house in nearby dumpsters, Rhein was arrested. CBS New York reported that Rhein is facing a felony criminal mischief charge and  had been trying to obtain a permit to be able to bulldoze the house. Since Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the office was obviously closed and Rhein was unable to get his permit, so he just went ahead and did it anyway.

ABC reported that Rhein had tried to call Andryshak before getting in to the bulldozer and destroying the house but she had not answered her phone and he just went ahead. Rhein and Andryshak had not been facing problems in their marriage and Andryshak has apparently forgiven him for this.

At least their family had not been permanently residing in that house at the time of the demolition, or else that would have caused other issues. Andryshak did still have objects of value in that house that included clothes, medications and appliances so now she is faced with the problem of having to replace all of her destroyed items.

Even though the house was illegally taken down and it came as a very big shock to members of the family, there were no injuries caused during the time of the demolition and it was not their permanent home so they still have somewhere to go. While Rhein will be dealing with criminal charges, Andryshak is stuck with the aftermath and absolute shock that something like this happened.
