Ranked ISU wrestlers
January 28, 2015
After a narrow 20-15 dual loss to Big 12 rival No. 7 Oklahoma State on Jan. 25, Iowa State remained at their No. 8 position in the latest NWCA Coaches Poll.
On Tuesday, Jan. 27, Intermat.com released its latest individual rankings, which include six ISU wrestlers at their respective weight classes.
133: No. 6 Earl Hall
Hall continued his undefeated month Jan. 25 after beating Oklahoma State’s Gary Harding in a 9-5 decision. On Jan. 31 against Oklahoma, Hall will face his biggest challenge since the Southern Scuffle when he goes against No. 2 Cody Brewer of Oklahoma.
149: No. 14 Gabe Moreno
Gabe Moreno got back on the winning track with a decision against Davey Dolan. The match was supposed to feature Moreno against No. 4 Josh Kindig, but was rescheduled when Kindig was left in Stillwater with an undisclosed injury.
165: No. 4 Michael Moreno
Michael Moreno lost for just the second time this season Jan. 25 when he went against top ranked Alex Dieringer, who is also considered to be one of the top pound-for-pound wrestlers in the NCAA.
174: No. 11 Tanner Weatherman
For the second time this season, Weatherman lost to Oklahoma State’s Kyle Crutchmer. Weatherman has had an up and down season since the start of the new year, losing to unranked Brad Wukie from Penn before beating Virginia Tech’s Zach Epperly. He’ll no doubt look to get back on track against Oklahoma on Jan. 31.
184: No. 15 Lelund Weatherspoon
Weatherspoon defeated No. 16 Nolan Boyd, a two-time Big 12 wrestler of the week Jan. 25. Since dropping out of the Las Vegas Invite with an injury, Weatherspoon has been undefeated with one technical fall and a win in sudden victory.
197: No. 2 Kyven Gadson
Gadson jumped to No. 2 in Intermat’s poll after former No. 1 Scott Schiller of Minnesota lost to Penn State’s Morgan McIntosh. Last season, Gadson defeated current No. 1 J’Den Cox from the University of Missouri-Columbia at the 2014 Southern Scuffle, but the two have not wrestled since.
