Duaron Williams leaves football team
January 9, 2015
ISU offensive lineman Duaron Williams has decided to leave Iowa State and transfer to another school, he told the Iowa State Daily.
Williams tweeted Friday evening that he was “no longer a part of the Iowa State football team.”
The Orlando, Fla. native said the decision was a personal one and that he informed ISU coach Paul Rhoads of his decision Friday morning.
“I just haven’t had the success I imagined I’d be having at Iowa State and I just felt it was time for me to make a move,” Williams said. “I’m just really thankful for the fans at Iowa State, they meant a lot.”
Williams plans to transfer to another school immediately, but had not made a decision.
The announcement comes hours after it was announced strength and conditioning coach Yancy McKnight was leaving the program for Houston and ISU running back recruit Devine Ozigbo decommitted from the program. Williams denied that either of the events influenced his decision and said he had talked to Rhoads about leaving in the past.
The 6-foot-3-inch, 289-pound offensive lineman chose Iowa State over the likes of Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Rutgers in 2012. He redshirted his first season before being used on the scout teams in 2013 and 2014.
