Ways to spice up your day

As the semester wears on, it can be easy to fall into a routine of constant work and class. The spark of your average weekday is gone and you may be living for the weekend. Well, on the random day/night, you can do something different to try and add some zest to the monotony of being a busy student.

If you’re of age, stop at a random bar. Don’t set up a date, meet up with friends or have a plan whatsoever. Friendships and opportunities often happen with spontaneity, so take the chance of possibly looking like a loner and get out in the public.

There are plenty of things you can do on campus, including attending an event at the M-Shop in the Memorial Union, playing pool and bowling at CyBowl and Billiards, trying the rock climbing wall or hitting the sauna at State Gym, seeing a movie at Cyclone Cinema, etc.

Schedule a massage. As weird as it might sound, having a random person rub you from head to foot is wonderful. You could pair up with someone to take part in this experience if you feel awkward, but understand that y’all might see each other in your undies. Also, watch out if you’re ticklish.

Ames dining can get boring, especially if you’re like the majority of the population and generally order the same thing from an eating establishment every time you go there. Try something different, have it cooked a different way, order a dessert or sample the drink menu. Expand your palette. You could end up finding a new favorite.

You could try hitting up Perfect Games every once in awhile. Granted, you’ll be spending some coin on the arcade area, laser tag and/or bowling, but it’s something fun and different. Taking a date or a group trip to the arcade is a fun experience.

If you want to really “go there” and make your day something exciting, you could make a move on someone you’re interested in. Ask that cutie from bio out for drinks, message the hottie with the body on Facebook, take a chance with Tinder (eesh) or text that one random number that’s been in your phone for a couple months. You never know what could happen.

Nature is awesome and free, so go do something outside. Ledges State Park in Boone is a great place to take a hike and see the trees. You could also try something new, like disc golfing or longboarding.
