Iowa State minimized but failed to eliminate common problems versus Kansas
January 18, 2015
Iowa State was far from flawless in its win against No. 9 Kansas.
The Cyclones got off to a poor start offensively, failing to capitalize on turnovers due to sloppy play from the Jayhawks.
Iowa State also lulled for short periods offensively in the second half, as the team allowed Kansas to pull back to within two and four points respectively after Iowa State had amassed 12-point leads on two separate occasions.
Down the stretch, the Cyclones got a bit sloppy themselves, making a few crucial turnovers in the final minutes that allowed the Jayhawks to keep the game close into the final 60 seconds of play.
Iowa State also forced a few quick shots instead of utilizing the expiring clock to its advantage after breaking the full-court press Kansas spread on late in the game when the Jayhawks found themselves desperate to make a final run.
Finally, the free-throw issue that has plagued the Cyclones for weeks again reared its ugly head as the team failed to convert on four separate opportunities from the stripe in the game’s final minute.
Iowa State was 15-for-26 from the line on the night.
