Over 115 years old? No big deal

Peter O'Brien

In a report from USA Today, there are five people in the world who were born in the 1800s and are still alive today.

Three of the people who are still alive are from the United States and all five of them are women. These women have lived long enough to have witnessed two century changes, two world wars, the Great Depression and the Cold War. All are very well known parts of history and when most of society just reads about all of these events in books, the following five women are able to say that they lived through it:

Misao Okawa, the world’s oldest living person at 116, is originally from Japan and continues to live there today. Even as she has been getting older, Okawa strongly believes that staying in shape and exercising on a regular basis is a key contributor in living a longer life.

Gertrude Weaver, also 116, is from the United States and is currently the oldest person in the country and is the second oldest woman in the world. Weaver witnessed the Civil War and currently lives in Arkansas. Weaver credits her living to such an old age to her very strong religious beliefs. She also believes that being kind to others is a way to live longer and to not stay angry with others and to just stay positive in any situation.

Jeralean Talley, 115, is from the United States and is the second oldest person in the United States. Talley has 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Talley tries to always stay as active as possible, and that is the reason she believes is how she has lived to be 115. Even after she turned 100, she still continues to do activities that keep her body and mind in motion. Talley still continues to go to casinos and do regular maintenance chores at her home. She even still goes on annual fishing trips every year no matter how old she is getting.

Susannah Mushatt Jones, 115, is from the United States and currently resides in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mushatt Jones was in New York during the time of the Harlem Renaissance and throughout her life has never smoked or drank. Mushatt Jones loves to go out, shop and buy very high-priced clothing. Even in her old age, Mushatt Jones continues to buy and wear high-priced lingerie.

Emma Morano, 115, is from Italy and is currently the oldest living person in Europe. USA Today Reported that even though she is 115, she lives alone and takes care of herself completely on her own. Morano credits a good diet and getting lots of sleep as a way of living longer.

These are some truly incredible women and even though they are the oldest people living on Earth, they still try to stay as active as they can and have no plans of slowing down.
