The Lowdown

In another Big 12 matchup, the Texas Longhorns (13-1, 2-1 Big 12) were out to prove why they deserve to be the No. 3 team in the nation. Iowa State (11-3, 2-1 Big 12), however, was able to rally from an 18-point deficit to pull off an upset, winning the game 59-57.

It seemed that Texas couldn’t miss at the start of the first half. The Longhorns opened the game shooting 4-of-4 from the three-point line and finished the half shooting nearly 50 percent from the field. At the peak of its run, Texas had compiled an 18-point lead.

By the end of the first half, Texas lead 37-24. The Cyclones, however, came out firing to start the second half. They opened on a 9-0 run, bringing them back within striking distance of the Longhorns. A pair of three-pointers from Brynn Williamson and a layup from Nikki Moody was enough to tie the game at 43-43 with 13 minutes left in the game.

From there, the Cyclones were able to extend their lead to seven, but Texas was able to rally back in the final minutes. With less than one minute to play, Seanna Johnson made a layup to give the Cyclones a two-point lead. The Cyclones were then able to hold Texas from scoring, sealing the upset win.

Iowa State outscored Texas 35-20 in the second half, holding the Longhorns to just 21.1 percent from the field. Nikki Moody finished the game with 17 points, leading the Cyclones. Brynn Williamson and Seanna Johnson followed with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Moody finished the game with 17 total points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Williamson finished with 14 points, 12 of which came from the three-point line.
