Mistakes in the Walking Dead
December 16, 2014
Let me start off by saying that I really do enjoy the show. It’s a cool concept to tell the plight of this group of apocalypse survivors as they wage a war against the undead, but seriously, it’s still Hollywood. I’m not trying to be too critical, but parts of the show really don’t add up. These are pretty minor, and, if they hadn’t been filmed this way, maybe the show would be adversely affected, so keep that in mind when I’m critiquing.
First of all, let’s start off with the grass. Seriously, who keeps mowing? At the prison, for instance, the grass is constantly trimmed down. You’d think the landscape would be wild and untamed as time goes on, even if winter does come in the South.
Next comes the body of Lori. Most of us should know by now that Rick’s wife (Carl’s mother) passes away during a cesarean to save baby Judith. Rick, traumatized by the news of Lori’s death, goes to her body for closure only to find it consumed by a walker…in its entirety…bones and all. This can’t be physically possible regardless of the “special circumstances” associated with an undead..thing. An average-sized, middle-age woman can’t be stored in a zombie stomach.
So maybe her body was dragged off, right? Maybe, but probably not. Looking at the floor, there are no drag marks to be seen and a body/bones were never found. Sorry for being so insensitive and crude, but the characters and situation are fictional.
Now we come to the next issue: shaving. How do to both the men and the women have the ability and motivation to shave their faces, legs, armpits, whatever. You’ll notice in various scenes that girls are wearing sleeveless shirts with their pits obviously trim, or the men keeping clean cheeks. I want to know where they get their razors from and how they manage to care enough to shave when their lives seem to be constantly on the line.
And finally this. Maybe brand names would cause conflict with the show, but the characters never seem to visit a Walmart, Target, Home Depot, or anything of that sort, at least not very often. I would think this would be a great place to go for whatever supplies you need. Small town stores and shops seem to be the only way to go for the travelers. I understand that they don’t want to risk entering cities, but Walmarts and HyVees are everywhere nowadays.
Keep in mind that I don’t consume The Walking Dead religiously, so these are just a couple things I’ve noticed over the seasons. I easily could be wrong or these observations could have some sort of explanation, but I still find them funny. Cheers.
