Timeflies rocks the Great Hall

Imagine a line so long it extends from the Sun Room of the Memorial Union, down the stairs, across the food court and down to the first floor doors of the north side of the MU. That’s how many people were waiting to see the sold-out “Timeflies” concert the night of Friday, Dec. 5.
“I hadn’t seen ‘Timeflies’ before, and I’ve been looking forward to this. My favorite song is ‘I Choose U,'” said Rebecca Garner, freshman in animal ecology.
Once the doors to the Great Hall finally opened at 7 p.m., students flocked to the front of the stage to try and get a good view.
The opening act was hip-hop artist, “BenReal” and his producer, “Pilot.” Friday night was the second time the two artists had performed together, the first being University of Northern Iowa’s “Timeflies” concert in October.
The two performers entered the stage with high energy and interacted often with the audience. Their upbeat music helped the crowd get into dynamic spirits and into full concert swing.
“Pilot” found the audience to be receptive. “I walked out and I was like, ‘yeah!'” Pilot said.
Following the “BenReal” and “Pilot” act, people pushed their way up to get as close as they could to the front and prepared their phones for the numerous pictures and videos about to be taken.
The moment the “Timeflies” duo, Cal Shapiro and Rob Resnick, came on stage, the crowd burst into almost hysteric screams. Their set list included songs from both albums, “The Scotch Tape” and “After Hours,” as well as their renowned “Timeflies Tuesday” covers.
Later into the performance, Shapiro, the vocalist, also freestyled verses about the characteristics of Iowa State, such as the Superdog stand, Hilton Coliseum and The Fighting Burrito.
Both Shapiro and Resnick seemed to enjoy the energy and excitement brought by Iowa State students. “Timeflies” ended their act with one of their newer songs, “All the Way,” while filming the audience for a feature in their next “Timeflies Tuesday” video. Of course, the crowd exploded into a frenzy for the camera.
According to Zach Worthington, freshman in industrial technology, the concert was nothing short of amazing.
“I’ve seen them seven times before in concert…[tonight] was definitely one of their better performances,” Worthington said.
