Does Iowa State have anywhere to turn?
December 12, 2014
It has been common knowledge all season that Iowa State would be without redshirt junior transfer Jameel McKay for its game at rival Iowa. It was announced ton Nov. 11 that McKay would be joined in his absence by surging senior Bryce Dejean-Jones.
ISU men’s basketball coach Fred Hoibergsaid in a press conference that he had decided to suspend Dejean-Jones for one game due to events that transpired after a noise complaint was registered with Ames police regarding Dejean-Jones’ apartment.
Read more about Hoiberg’s decision and the team’s reaction to it here.
Hoiberg was mum about where he would turn in Dejean-Jones’ stead, but did say that he was mulling over a few different options.
Sophomore Matt Thomas has typically been first off of the bench since returning to the team in its third game versus Alabama, averaging 21.2 minutes per game.
However, redshirt junior Abdel Nader has clocked more than 12 minutes per game since he made a return of his own to the sideline and senior Daniel Edozie has seen just over 11 minutes per contest.
Thomas seems the likely choice, but considering Hoiberg’s concern with the Iowa size underneath, it would not be a surprise to see Edozie play one of his larger roles of the season.
